1. Use Flouride

If the water in the child’s area of residence does not contain fluoride, then they may need to take an oral fluoride supplement.
Your dentist can also give the parent a fluoride varnish for your child’s teeth if they need it.
It should, however, be noted that too much fluoride can cause stains on the teeth and can also be harmful to the health of the child.

2. Incorporate Brushing And Flossing Into Their Routine

The parent should continue helping their child brush their teeth until they are around seven or eight years old.
The toothbrush should be changed every three to six months, and the child should brush for about two minutes per session.
Floss can also be used at least once a day to help with oral care.
3. Ensure That They Have A Proper Diet

Kids that eat a lot of sugary foods and drinks are at a high risk of getting cavities.

Sweet snacks should be limited, and brushing teeth should be encouraged once they have had sugar.

For older children, chewing of gum is encouraged since it strengthens the jaw, washes away bits of food, freshens breath and balances the acid that can cause decay of teeth.
They should take sugar-free gum or gum that has sugar but in limited amounts.
